Emerging trends for 2012

We are on the last working day of 2011 and it is time to look forward. Let us have a look at the emerging trends for 2012.

• HTML5: 2011 saw the standards, interfaces, and associated technologies that loosely defined HTML5 solidify and mature. This was accompanied by the rapid decline of Flash, the long-reigning technology of choice for building web sites and apps with rich interactivity and video. In 2012 HTML5 will become the de-facto standard for web development efforts and best practices will evolve.
• Keeping Up with an Agile Approach to Technology: In the mobile app-enabled business environment getting to market quickly is critical. Agile development processes are helping companies rapidly redefine their software architecture to meet new business challenges. 
• Responsive Design Becomes a Best Practice: Responsive design is a design approach that results in device independent web site and app development.
• Mobile Enablement of Enterprise Apps: As apps continue to capture customer attention, mobile delivery of content and services has become an enterprise initiative. Organizations are discovering that they own a growing number of sand-boxed native apps and web-app development projects. Redeveloping seemingly simple enterprise apps such as a retail store-finder can yield major benefits in terms of user experience, adoption, maintenance and profitability.
• Exposing Back End Legacy Systems: In order to take full advantage of the new Open Web paradigm, back-end services must provide accessible APIs. By building flexible web services, businesses and their partners can more easily develop new applications. This enables easy access to an organization’s information and services for both internally and external facing apps for iPads, smart phones and other channels.
• Video Becomes a Mainstream Communication Channel: Video continues to increase in importance as a tool for marketing and sales communication, support and internal corporate communications. Organizations have important choices to make about their online video provider (OVP) partners such as Brightcove and third party platforms such as YouTube. Security, management and reporting are key factors to consider when managing video content as a critical corporate asset.

Holidays to Lohith

Lohith has got holidays this entire week. He is off to his Grandpa's home. I will miss both Vidhya and Lohith. Bhavana & Yashu have holidays and they are with me. Sometimes these holidays are crazy!!!

JPEG to CSS in very simple steps

My cousin was struggling with a design given to him in JPEG by the client. He had to develop site in CSS and div. It had to be compatible for all devices and independent of resolution. Suggested him the following steps

• Create slices of the images in Adobe image ready
• Goto File => output settings => HTML
• Set the values required click on next
• Reach Slice output
• Select generate css and click on ok
• Now go to save optimized as option under File
• Choose save as type to HTML & images
• Click on save
• The html page is created as desired

We created all the pages and finished off a site in such a less time. Good going!!!

• Processes are transparent
• Foreign language classes can be conducted from the respective country's teachers there by being authentic.
• Collaboration
• Using blogs for communicating and multilevel discussion
• Using video share networks for visual collaboration
• Building your own community
• RSS feeds for continuously updated links by tagging communities
• Setting up wikis for dynamic knowledge sharing
• Analysing data by maps

Tools of web2.0

According to wikipedia, the term Web 2.0 is associated with web applications that facilitate participatory information sharing, interoperability, user-centered design and collaboration on the World Wide Web.

A Web 2.0 site allows users to interact and collaborate with each other in a social media dialogue as creators (prosumers) of user-generated content in a virtual community, in contrast to websites where users (consumers) are limited to the passive viewing of content that was created for them.

Tools of Web 2.0 include

• Social networking sites
• Blogs
• Wikis
• Video sharing sites
• Hosted services
• Web applications
• Mashups
• Folksonomies.

I was in fact surprised when I learnt my neighborhood marriage hall has got a face book page of its own. 

Out of curiosity I visited http://www.facebook.com/pages/Nagachandra-Kalyana-Mantapa/143335862443747 and also learnt that they have a web page and an email id. They are available on http://nckmnmh.blogspot.com/ 

I guess businesses are recognizing the power of internet and harnessing it. Social media has replaced or more optly killed Encyclopedia, Overhead Projector, Carbon Paper, Map and what not. 

People who once banned youtube in classrooms are now using it to teach the students.

The examples can be many but the concept is one. use the web2.0 or be left behind!!!

The second Day

I just wanted to continue my musings. Also wanted to be regular on posts.

The whole day just went checking errors and regular support not much development at work. I finalised the layout of this blog and closed it.

After work Vidya and Lohith were at their entertaining best. Played with Vidya for some time and put her to sleep. Lohith was keen on using laptop. He learnt how to connect mouse and lan cable.

We checked the hits on his video. Not so great.

He enjoyed some awesome videos on Youtube and called it a day.

My musings and web

Today I started thinking I am not harnessing the power of web and my knowledge. I need to work towards this. The first thing obviously is starting to blog.

Blog... Blog... Blog...

As Lohith, my son would say blog a little tweet a little one two three...
Was I just waiting for eternity to share these I donot know.

First thing I checked was the popularity of Lohith's video


I had uploaded it on monday 19th Dec 2011 and first day it had 9 views. 20th 17views and today it had 173 views I could not believe this.
Before this I had tried a video of my friends and me it stagnated at 32 views...



So I thinkI am on track.

Ok web here I come...
